These six TOY NOMURA-Japan (T.N or TN) OVAL WINDOW VWs were found on an online auction, were in very bad condition and in need of repair. They were perfect candidates to go through my Restor-Version Shop and emerge as special Oval Window VWs with a new lease in life.
The six Oval VWs were carefully taken apart and the parts were placed in parts tray to keep them organized. The tin trim parts were wire brushed, cleaned, polished and clear paint coated. The friction motors were cleaned and repaired as needed. The real rubber tires were also cleaned, restored and made shiny again.
Using a special plastic hand tool and wood block, the dents were smoothed out of the tin body and chassis. Then the tin body and chassis are sand blasted which removes all the rust, old paint and grime. After washing, cleaning the body and chassis, they each received a special paint job for a particular theme.
The chassis are assembled with the friction motors, front wheels and bumpers waiting for the body to be completed.
Using a computer graphics program, I created, made the graphics and then printed them using special water transfer decal paper and a color laser printer. The graphics were applied to the painted bodies. Then the bodies were then attached to the chassis for final assembly.
The theme for these six TOY NOMURA-Japan Oval VWs were to transform them into a SINCLAIR Oil, ASHLAND Oil, GULF Oil, ATLANTIC Oil, HERSEY COCO and OREO COOKIE company vehicles. Check out the photo set to see the transformation process.
