A plastic body in the shape of a T2 VW Panel Bus. It was produced to be used as a postal letter scale. It was a promotional model by VW and was produced by order of the German firm of RENNER. It was meant to shorten the wait for the 1/40 T2a Modell by CURSOR. The letter scale was issued to VW in September 1967 and the CURSOR model was issued in October 1972. In total, 43,500 letter scales were produced by RENNER. The letter scale was manufactured of plastic with some metal parts, being the driver and the “motor”. On one side the red exterior of the VW Bus was shown and on the other side the yellow interior with the driver. A promotional booklet explaining the letter scale was included. It also was used as advertising for the new 1/1 VW T2a. When a letter, measuring 20 grams, was attached to the letter scale instead of the metal “motor”, the letter scale would keep the model straight. In case the driver part would go up, the letter would be heavier than 20 grams and one needed to pay additional postage.
