PINPLAST of ARGENTINA produced this Oval VW that is a very large plastic body with cut out windows and good details of front and rear hood, door seams and rear oval window with air louvers. Clear plastic window insert, paper interior and steering wheel. Plastic chassis with rubber tires and there are two large round cylinders for the 4 “C” type batteries. Remote control unit with road signs to set up a driving course, with instructions and guarantee. This toy VW represents the largest of the Vintage Oval Window VW toys. This VW was not sold in stores but rather given as a promotional item at the Volkswagen Agency in Argentina in 1954. There were only 100 produced at the time and now seldom found.
There is no manufacturers name on the VW toy or on the original box. Although the original box has INDUSTRIA DE JUGUETES ELECTRONICICOS printed on it, it does not indicate the manufacturer. There is a VW Pickup Bus produced that has the same chassis and an original box (2 different versions of boxes) has a label with the manufacturers name of PINPLAST. Most likely this Oval VW was also produced by PINPLAST. Recently it has been noted that the JT Toy Company in Argentina may have been the original manufacturer and then later PINPLAST acquired the molds. On the other hand the boxes state FABRICANTES UNIDOS ("united manufacturers): is it a joint venture? There is a similar PINPLAST VW Bus that has a JT in a circle logo in the bed of the VW Bus. Similar to the IMAP Oval VW.
