KDF JGES are FAKE! was created by Andrea-B
I always doubted the authenticity of those Phenoplast - JGES KDF models. All those versions are too good to be true. Other versions (still with that KDF-1 license plate) keep appearing on Ebay for sale in intact boxes with no signs of age.

However, just today I verified that these are fakes. I have some good evidence with me and will try to share here with you below.

1 - The drawing of the beetle in the JGES Puzzle game is copied from the modern Tamiya 1:48 VW 82e instruction kit.

2 - The license plate KDF-1 appears in the JGES game of the Berlin Motor Show 1939. This is not possible because this plate appears for the first time in 1941. Only Stuttgart IIIA plates were used at the Motor Show.

Furthermore the inscription "DIE ERSTEN IM VOLKSWAGENWERK HERGESTELLTEN KDF" was only used for the opening photo of 1941 in the VW factory. It has nothing to do with the Motor Show.

3 - How can there be KDF JGES Kommandeurwagen versions? Although the real few cars produced went to high-ranking party or military associations, the KDF was never advertised in military form. It was intended and depicted with families on the highway.
Then, how is possible KDF type 87 written on one of the models? Type 87 was a Porsche exclusive reference code. They couldn't let the toys know about it. Type 60 and Type 82e were produced. Type 87 was only a few prototypes.

Hi Andrea,

sorry for my late reply (due to personal circumstances) . Thank you very much for your info and contribution! Problem is that there are various angles to look at it and it is not easy to reconstruct how and what was done. The cars itself were 2 years ago tested at a German testinstitute and they seem original. App. 20 years ago a version of the KdF Jges car also showed up at another collector from a completely different source but without box. I guess the discussion wil go on and on. I have seen loads of original documents (also checked) of these toy cars. I agree with you that many questions remain; hopefully we will once find the ultimate proof of its originality.. Until then, discussion remains and I am looking forward to it!
best regards
Jozsi

your doubts are very interesting - and I think a solution might be, that the toys were made (in very little numbers) during the 1940s - not for the cornerstone festival.
And maybe many years later they were found and an "artist" designed boxes around them.
It´s much easier to fake boxes than toys and all boxes look a little bid strange to me....
