TEKNO VW BUS V2

TEKNO was founded in 1928 by A. Siegumfeldt, a plumber from Copenhagen, Denmark. In the early days they produced construction toys and in 1945 the production of diecast vehicles began. From the late 1940s through about 1967, many TEKNO models were made by H. Langes Legetøj (Langes Toys), a diecaster in Copenhagen with which TEKNO had contracts. This was a similar situation to that of English toymaker Morestone which enlisted the help of diecaster Modern Products. TEKNO ceased making toys in 1972. In 1974, TEKNO tooling was sold to a Dutch firm called Vanmin, BV. Thus TEKNO, initially with the name "TEKNO TOYS" and later "TEKNO" continued as a firm in the Netherlands. This Company is still in business, mainly making truck models with a variety of promotional liveries.

Diecast metal body with marked bumpers, cut out windows and good details of the VW Bus. Produced as the Volkswagen Panel Van, Kombi and Pickup versions. It consists of three major parts - top and bottom body, painted in same or different colors – chassis, always painted gray. All joined together with two rivets. Further clear, dark or green colored plastic windows, metal axles and metal rims with rubber tires (later also plastic rims). The wheel caps also differ depending on the commercial text of the VW. Mostly they are flat but could also be cupped. There is no interior. Chassis are stamped with “Tekno DENMARK”. The Tekno VW Bus and Pickup was produced in numerous colors and themes. There are many booklets produced that describe the different models and which are the rare ones. Mostly the Tekno VW was sold thru toy stores. But also, more unusual from Tekno specially ordered, VW Buses that companies handed over to their customers. The VW Bus or Pickup came in very detailed and colorful box as well in special company logo box. There are also late boxes with cellophane. Prices for the rare ones are very high.
