SCHRÖDER OVAL VW V1

The Company was named SCHRÖDER, FABRIK FÜR PLASTIK-SPIELWAREN and the owner was LUDWIG SCHRÖDER. The Company was located near Lüdenscheid, Germany.

Plastic body with cutout windows and very nice body details. Silver painted headlights, taillights, front hood strip and running boards. Plain or painted tin interior with steering wheel. Plastic chassis with friction motor attached to the body with 6 melted plastic rivets. Early version still came with the keyhole in the body although it had no function. Later versions came without the keyhole. Rubber wheels with or without DUNLOP letters, front wheel steering and shiny tin bumpers. Plastic chassis usually painted silver, was stamped with a heart insignia with an “S” inside the heart. Just to note: SCHRÖDER also provided the plastic bodies for the MIGNON remote control Oval VWs as well.

There is also a one-off red version with a special cord that either enables the car to run forward or backward; the cord rolls up by backward action. The frontwheels are steered by moving a copper wire protruding from the rear oval window. This might be a prototype that never went into production. Another possible prototype was a red firechief car ("Brandchef" on top of the car) with a driver. It also featured a strip along the sides of the car depicting the oval door trim.
